FAQ
How much do I get paid?
You will receive a living allowance along with free meals and accommodation. In addition you will have the opportunity to gain qualifications in activities such as fencing, first aid and air rifles.
Do I work weekends?
At most centres we do not have groups at weekends which gives you free time. There may occasionally be times where you need to help at one of the centres that does have groups but all transport costs will be covered.
How long is the Season?
We have centres that run from March until October and other centres are only open for a month. This gives a you a flexibility to get the contract that is right for you. In addition we are also part of Tui Travel PLC, which means the season could be endless. You could head to places like Turkey, Mallorca, Gran Canaria or the Caribbean. You may want to do a season in the Alps with SkiClass or SkiBound.
Am I able to choose where I go or whom I go with?
During the training course there will be a chance to write down the 3 top places you want to go and the 3 people you want to go with. We endeavour to accommodate those needs but we cannot always get everything you want to fit. At JCA we have found that it is more important, who you go with rather than where you go.
How long is the training course?
Our staff are our most important resource and we spend three weeks preparing you to have all skills necessary to work on centre. We are committed to ensuring that you are fully trained and able to provide the highest levels of safety and quality. We aim to develop a unique atmosphere that encourages teamwork, open communication, personal development and the contribution of each individual.
How long does it take to process my application?
Your application is screened as soon as possible after the closing date. We will then contact all applicants to advise them of the outcome of their application.
Why haven't I been offered an interview?
Unfortunately, we cannot interview every applicant and there may be applicants who have more relevant skills & experience suited to the role profile.
If I come to work for you – what are my employment prospects?
Fantastic! Many of our Senior Instructors, Centre Managers and Head Office staff started as instructors – we value the knowledge and enthusiasm that you can bring to the job and as we have such a family atmosphere – if you have the right qualities – we’ll do everything we can to keep hold of you!
What about staff ents?
Over the last few years, there have been a whole range of staff entertainments organised including Alton Towers, camping trips to Snowdonia, Isle of Wight music festival tickets, surfing lessons, an inter-centre sports competition, plenty of pub trips and beach barbeques and great end of season parties!
I hear some activity centres cram up to 8 people into staff bedrooms – what’s that all about?
Not sure – the most you will have is 3 people sharing a large bedroom but at the majority of our centres you will have your own room or at most share with one other person and we certainly don’t expect you to sleep in tents!
Isn’t it all about the money?
We are a commercial company who provide a fantastic, life-changing service to thousands of children every year. Our prices are such that a whole range of children can enjoy our courses – from all walks of life and social backgrounds – we feel that is of great importance and aim to keep it that way!
